The freedom of vanlife — Norwegian edition

Renting a camper van is the most flexible way to explore Norway. No fixed hotel bookings, no rigid itinerary, no missed sunrises waiting on a tour bus.

Norway is built for road trips. Wide empty roads, dramatic fjords, snow-capped peaks, midnight sun in summer, the Northern Lights in winter, and some of the best wild-camping rules in Europe. With a camper van you can wake up next to a fjord one morning and a glacier the next, cook breakfast with a view no hotel will ever match, and stay where you want, for as long as you want.

At Norway Campers we've been renting campers from 奥斯陆 and 特罗姆瑟 for over ten years. Our fleet is built for Norwegian conditions — manual and automatic transmissions, 4WD options for the back-country, full motorhomes with shower and toilet, and Arctic-ready winter equipment. Whether you're chasing the Lofoten Islands, the North Cape, or the southern fjords, we have the right van for your trip.

Suggested Norway road trips

Whether you start in Oslo or Tromsø, here are four classic itineraries our customers love.

01

Oslo → Bergen → Trolltunga

7–10 days through the southern fjords. Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord, the Trolltunga hike, and waterfalls every kilometre. The classic southern road trip.

02

Oslo → Lofoten (one-way)

14–21 days driving the entire west coast from Oslo to the Lofoten Islands, with a drop-off in Tromsø. Long, slow, and unforgettable.

03

Tromsø Aurora loop

5–7 days around Tromsø chasing the Northern Lights, whale watching in Skjervøy, and the dreamlike polar-night blue hours.

04

Tromsø → North Cape

A 7–10 day drive to the northernmost point of mainland Europe, through Sami country and along the Arctic coast. Best in summer.

Camper rental in Norway — FAQ

Quick answers to the questions we get most often. See the full FAQ ›

Where can I pick up a camper in Norway?

Norway Campers has two pickup locations: 奥斯陆 (Sundbyvegen 3, 2032 Maura — near Oslo Airport) and 特罗姆瑟 (Salarøyvegen 159, 9102 Kvaløysletta). You can return at either depot — one-way rentals are available.

Can I do a one-way camper rental between Oslo and Tromsø?

Yes. One-way rentals between our Oslo and Tromsø depots are available. We also publish discounted relocation offers when we need to move a van between depots. Check our current one-way offers ›

Are the campers equipped for winter in Norway?

Yes. Every winter rental comes with spiked tires (required by Norwegian law), a fuel-driven diesel heater, and an insulated cabin so you stay warm at −20 °C. Our 4WD options are best for snowy back-country roads.

How much does a camper rental in Norway cost?

Rates start from 860 NOK per day for the Classic Camper. The 4WD vans range from 1,098 NOK to 1,589 NOK per day, and the full Viking Home motorhome (with shower and toilet) starts at 1,980 NOK per day. Prices vary with season and rental length.

What's included with my camper rental?

All rentals include unlimited mileage in Norway and a fully-equipped kitchenette (stove, fridge, cookware, plates, cutlery). Winter rentals also include spiked tires and a diesel heater. A bedding package (duvets, pillows, linen) and 24/7 roadside support are optional add-ons you can book at checkout.

Do I need a special driving licence?

A standard category B (car) driving licence is enough for all five of our campers. Minimum age is 21 with at least 2 years of driving experience.

Can I wild-camp anywhere in Norway?

Norway has very camper-friendly rules: the allemannsrett (right to roam) lets you park overnight on uncultivated land as long as you're at least 150 metres from the nearest house. For motorhomes and campers, official rest stops, campsites, and many fjordside pull-offs are excellent options.
